egyptian-authoritiesDozens of Palestinian refugees fleeing from the violence in Syria have been detained by the Egyptian authorities. The conditions in which the refugees are being held have been described by informed sources as “very bad”.

Speaking to Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper, the sources estimate that there are more than 100 refugees being held in police stations around Egypt pending deportation. Although detention centres were improved slightly during President Mohamed Morsi’s period in office, the conditions therein have worsened since the coup which ousted him in July.

A media campaign against Palestinians, especially those in the Gaza Strip, has forced many who were living in Egypt to leave the country to find refuge elsewhere.
