Al-Arakib: Sheikh Sayah detained 10Oct13 October 10, 2013
Alternative Information Service    -    9 October 2013
â Sheikh Sayah Abu Mdighem A-Toury, leader of the Negev Bedouin village Al-Arakib which has been demolished more than 50 times, was arrested today by the police on the village lands. It seems he is charged with residing on his land. âThey mean perhaps that Iâm not allowed to live in the country,â he said. The detention of this brave person, a fighter for justice and an inspiration for many of us here, Jews and Arabs, is a clear escalation in the authoritiesâ efforts to expel the people of Al-Arakib from their land and force them to relinquish their land rights. All to the defense of Al-Arakib!
â Update from Attorney Shahdeh Ibn-Bari, who has been supporting relentlessly the struggle of the people of Al-Arakib: Sayah was transported from the local police station in the Bedouin township Rahat to the special headquarters in Beer Sheva in order to be interrogated by the YOAV unit â the special police unit set up by the Israeli government in the framework of the implementation of the Prawer Plan. The unit has a vision: cleansing the Negev âstate landsâ from âencroachersâ â that is, Arab citizens struggling for the recognition of the land rights.
Thank You.
