JERUSALEM (Maâan) â Israeli authorities started new excavations under the al-Aqsa compound in the Old City of Jerusalem, namely under the Chain Gate on the western side, according to the Jerusalem-based al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage.
The group said in a statement that excavations were about 8 meters below a tunnel the Israelis had dug under the western part of the compound. Dozens of plastic buckets were seen as well as large plastic containers full of soil, according to the statement.
Furthermore, added the group, ancient Islamic buildings in the area were bolstered by steel stanchions âwhich indicates there are deep excavations under the buildings.â
The group also highlighted that the Israeli âoccupation made upâ a new Jewish synagogue for females within the tunnel under the western part of al-Aqsa compound. The group added in its statement that several synagogues were created and inaugurated along the same tunnel in the past few years.
Thank You.
