prisoners_3-_340_220The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) confirmed in its report issued in the anniversary of United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights on Tuesday, that the Israeli occupation continues to violate international laws and conventions, including the Fourth Geneva agreement and human rights agreements.

The Israeli occupation continues to abuse Palestinians, particularly prisoners and detainees.

Israel is currently detaining around 5,000 prisoners, including 15 female prisoners and around 200 children, according to PPS.

PPS said that 2013 witnesses a brutal attack against Palestinian prisoners; as they are subjected to continuous raids and suppression. Four prisoners from the Captive Movement have been killed during this year; three in Israeli jails and one after his release due to medical negligence.

PPS added that 165 prisoners are in indefinite administrative detention.

PPS revealed that the number of sick prisoners has increased to 150 having chronic diseases out of a total 1400 prisoners with various illnesses.

The Israeli authorities are still detaining 35 prisoners who were jailed before the signing of the Oslo Accords and were re-arrested after being released in the agreement that was signed between the Palestinian Authority and Israel as a gesture for the resumption of the negotiations.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society reiterated its call to the international community and international human rights institutions to hold Israel accountable for its violations against the Palestinian people and the prisoners.
