Palestino v/s EvertonChilean football club Deportivo Palestino has refused to give into criticism for sporting the historic Palestine map on their jersey.

A football team in Chile that was founded by Palestinian immigrants in 1920 has refused to apologize for sporting a traditional map of Palestine on their official jersey.

The map – which is in the shape of the historic Palestine including Gaza, the West Bank, and what is today considered to be the state of Israel – is featured on the back of the team shirt, representing the number 1 in squad numbers.

The team, known as Deportico Palestino, has angered many Jews who live in Chile, who have been calling on the team to remove the map, as well as mounting pressure on the national football association to penalize the team.

On the other hand, the Palestinian Federation of Chile – an organization representing the 400,000 Palestinians living in Chile – slammed the criticism of the Jewish community in a statement saying “We reject the hypocrisy of those who blame this map, and yet talk about the occupied territory as disputed territory.”
