Maâariv (Hebrew)Â reported Thursday that a PLO official claimed Secretary of State John Kerry threatened to stop aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) if the current peace talks fail. Â Â At a press conference on Wednesday in Ramallah, Â Tayseer Khaled, a member of the PLO Executive Committee, accused the U.S. Secretary of using political blackmail to pressure the Palestinians into making concessions.
Khaled said that the Americans made it clear that Washington will not be able to ensure the continuation of international assistance to the PA and will not be able to prevent the expansion of the settlements, if the negotiations stall as a result of a Palestinian refusal to sign the framework agreement.
Maâariv quoted Khaled,
Up until now the negotiations have not led to any significant breakthrough in the core issues. The Palestinian side cannot sign the framework agreement because it does not satisfy the minimal Palestinian conditions and rights.
According to the Israeli daily,
Even if Tayseer Khaled does not represent the official position of the PA, his claims expose the internal opposition within the PLO to the agreement with Israel and to the American initiative.
Thank You.
